Despite all these measures taken, your pain has continued. Occasionally your pain sneaks up on you and debilitates you for a period. Or it stalks you in the background of your life, never showing its face but shadowing your every mood and causing you tremendous, persistent unease.
These metaphors relate well to conditions like migraines and headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, and neck pain. These examples of musculoskeletal pain are well known, but the myriad assortment of underlying causes relating to each is still foggy at best.
With migraines, for example, discovering your triggers and making lifestyle changes is the best advice most experts can offer. Despite superficial relief through meds, there are no cures for migraines. Other body pains are similar in that their specific underlying causes are a mystery and their cures remain elusive.
Concerning recurrent body aches and neck pain, a very likely culprit is your thyroid. Approximately 50+ million Americans have an underperforming and/or compromised thyroid. It's not known precisely what impairs thyroid function. Stress, toxins, pollution, chemicals and nutritional deficiencies are thought to be causes--but these are only the tip of the iceberg.
Too often, results from your thyroid tests come back normal, suggesting there is no deeper issue beneath your recurrent body pain. Your doctor might attribute your episodes exclusively to stress, too many long days seated at your desk, not enough sleep, etc.
While reversing any of the above is helpful, doing so won't necessarily stop your recurring pains. It might also be true your thyroid tests seem normal because your case is one of subclinical hypothyroidism.
The nature of subclinical hypothyroidism makes it difficult to diagnose using standard thyroid tests. In fact, extensive blood work is generally required. This is how some people can go for years, enduring body pain that never leaves them--all because their thyroid is actually impaired but doesn't appear to be according to standard thyroid tests.
Traditional approaches to healing often compartmentalize the human body, focusing on localities and not the whole person. But I look at all your systems, I give you a questionnaire, and get to know you. I talk with you about your medical history and your past struggles. I draw a complete picture of you. Then I step back and try to determine what is slightly out of focus.
I don't use drugs or surgery. I employ an array of diagnostic tests to penetrate the invisible web of factors causing your pain. Then I arm you with an individualized set of comprehensive, preventative measures to help you address your chronic condition.
One of my corresponding goals is to help you develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of your own body, a remarkable instrument that is always willing to heal--no matter what. I do this through my structural, neurological, metabolic approach, explaining in detail whatever you're curious about during the steps on your journey to health.
Upon coming to me, we'll begin with a consultation, complete a case review questionnaire, and conduct a dietary and nutritional evaluation. Meanwhile, I'll review your submitted medical records and determine if you've had all the appropriate tests. Last, we'll proceed to your written recommended action plan.
Bear in mind, I do not diagnose or treat medical conditions other than neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. If you come to me with thyroid issues, this presupposes your doctor has already diagnosed you. I address stubborn and persistent symptoms that have not responded to your main course of medical treatment, and I attempt to promote overall long term health and equilibrium. In other words I treat the patient, not the diagnosis, or label you have been given.
