Why Won’t Your Knee Pain Go Away? The Missing Inflammation Step

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Tue, Oct 20, 2026

When your knee hurts on the stairs, getting out of a chair, or during a short walk, everyday decisions begin to revolve around pain. You may find yourself wondering why discomfort keeps returning and what deserves a closer look.

One often-overlooked part of that conversation is inflammatory resolution: the active process that helps the body bring an inflammatory response to a close. Specialized pro-resolving mediators, or SPMs, participate in that process. Their biology is compelling, but supplement research requires careful interpretation.

At Johnson Chiropractic Neurology & Nutrition, I encourage a whole-person perspective on persistent knee pain. Here, I will explain what SPMs do, what the research suggests, and why inflammatory resolution is one possible piece of the picture rather than a diagnosis for every painful knee.

Yogurt, Cheese, and Knee Osteoarthritis: What Research Suggests

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Tue, Oct 20, 2026

When your knees feel stiff on the stairs or uncomfortable during a walk, it is understandable to wonder whether everyday food choices could make a difference. A headline about yogurt and cheese offers an appealing possibility, but the details matter.

At Johnson Chiropractic Neurology & Nutrition, I encourage you to look beyond a single food or symptom.

Research can help you ask better questions about nutrition, movement, and the factors contributing to persistent knee discomfort. It should not become a promise that one dietary change will protect your joints.

Arthroscopic Meniscal Surgery vs. Non-Operative Care for Degenerative Tears: What the 5-Year Research May Be Telling Us

Getting out of a chair should not feel like a major event. Walking up stairs should not make you wonder whether your knee will catch, grind, or give out. Yet that is exactly where many people find themselves when they have chronic knee pain and are told they have a degenerative meniscal tear.

If you have been told that arthroscopic meniscal surgery is the obvious next step, it may be worth taking a closer look before moving forward.

A 5-year systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials published in theJournal of Orthopaedic Reportsfound no significant long-term difference in pain, activity, or knee function between arthroscopic meniscal surgery and non-operative care for patients with degenerative meniscal tears and mechanical symptoms. Even more important, the surgical group showed significantly higher osteoarthritic progression over time. 1

That matters.

Because when long-term pain and function outcomes appear similar, but one path may be associated with greater arthritic progression, the decision deserves a deeper and more thoughtful evaluation.
