Why PEMF May Be a Helpful Tool for Stroke Recovery

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Tue, Sep 05, 2023

What is PEMF?

PEMF, short for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy, is a cutting-edge treatment that utilizes electromagnetic fields to stimulate healing and recovery in the body. This non-invasive therapy has gained attention in the medical field for its potential in stroke recovery and prevention. But what exactly is PEMF and how does it work?

PEMF therapy involves the use of electromagnetic fields that are carefully tuned to specific frequencies and intensities. These electromagnetic fields are applied to the body through specialized devices, such as mats or handheld devices, which deliver the pulses directly to the affected areas.

Mushrooms - What is The Hype?

Posted by Dr. Evelin Valdez, ND on Wed, Aug 02, 2023

Everyone is talking about mushrooms these days – nutritional and psychedelic mushrooms. Here I will only talk about the benefits of nutritional mushrooms and why we should include them in our daily diets.

A Closer Look at Mushrooms

Mushrooms have been cherished and even treasured for thousands of years.  Our ancestors have known about the healing and nutritional values of mushrooms.  The Chinese have long considered mushrooms to be a medicinal food to maintain good health. The Greeks even believed that the consumption of mushrooms makes a man physically strong. And in modern day Japan, mushrooms are used to treat cancer.

Mushrooms are not uncommon in the American diet. However, most of the very nutritious and health improving mushrooms are not well known nor much consumed.  Even though, mushrooms are often treated like vegetables, they really are not.  They are a type of fungus.

Nutritional Supplements for Reducing Neuropathy: A Comprehensive Guide

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Tue, Jul 25, 2023

Neuropathy, also known as peripheral neuropathy, is a condition that affects the peripheral nervous system, which consists of the nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord. It occurs when there is damage or dysfunction to these peripheral nerves, leading to a variety of symptoms.

The peripheral nerves are responsible for transmitting signals between the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and the rest of the body, including the muscles, organs, and sensory receptors. They play a crucial role in motor function, sensation, and autonomic functions (such as heart rate and digestion).

Neuropathy can affect a single nerve (mononeuropathy) or multiple nerves (polyneuropathy). It can also be categorized based on the specific types of nerves affected, such as sensory, motor, or autonomic nerves. The most common form of neuropathy is peripheral polyneuropathy, which involves damage to multiple peripheral nerves. Let's explore causes, symptoms, treatments, and the essential nutrients needed for helping defeat neuropathy.

For most people cholesterol has been considered the cardiovascular lab test to monitor to assess your risk of a cardiovascular event. However, increased cholesterol levels were found in less than 50% of all heart attack and stroke victims.

Researchers at the World Health Organization published a study which pointed to an overlooked risk factor that seemed to account for the other half.

Does Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Need to be Re-Mineralized?

Posted by Dr. Evelin Valdez, ND on Tue, Jun 20, 2023

Minerals determine Important properties of the water we consume

Reverse Osmosis (RO) water is naturally more acidic than tap water, because along with the toxins, alkalizing trace minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, chloride, and phosphorus are removed. RO water ranges from 5 to 7 pH.  Natural water and tap water ranges from around 6.5 to 8.5. This leads to the question of whether one should or must re-mineralize RO water before drinking and whether RO water is healthy.

With the state of the environment and all the toxins found in our water supply, it is advisable to use RO water for drinking and household use just to avoid the toxins and to reduce the body’s toxic burden.  However, before you alkalize your water, you want to make sure you know the pH of your drinking water!!!  You can test your water using pH strips.  Once you know your water’s pH, factors such as one’s state of health, body acid-alkaline balance, one’s diet, and personal taste preference determine whether or not one needs to/ should re-mineralize the RO water.
