Gut Feelings: System Acts as Second Brain
When you have an autoimmune condition such as Hashimoto's, or if you have fibromyalgia, anxiety or depession you must remember there is an important connection between your digestive tract and your brain. Dr. Michael D. Gershon coined the term "second brain" in 1996 to refer to the powerful brain in the gut known as the enteric nervous system. He is one of a small number of researchers studying brain-gut connections in the relatively new field of neurogastroenterology. You know the feeling...you realize you have succumbed to a virus...for me the tell-tale signs are achy muscles, my hair follicles hurt if I touch my hair and it hurts to move my eyes. Aside from those symptoms, a sore throat, congested sinuses and swollen lymph nodes and fatigue round out the main symptoms.

Through specialized testing for gluten sensitivity and celiac genes and then other tests to measure what substances my body was reacting to (gluten, casein, yeast, soy, eggs) I was able to tailor my diet to allow healing to occur faster. As a result of the changes I had to make for myself, I am a better doctor for my patients who come with chronic health issues, such as fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s thyroid, balance disorders, peripheral neuropathy, etc. Most of these patients are just having all their symptoms treated and not the root cause of their health challenges. By the time I see them, they have advanced damage to their bodies and need specialized attention, testing and treatments. I put together a page that outlines my unique specialized testing and treatment methods.
After learning about these health challenges and then the changes needed for body healing - weight loss comes along with the deal, since there is less inflammation and bloating. Better food choices based on each persons body, makes the weight come off easily and permanently as you make dietary and lifestyle changes. Not only do you lose weight, but you are healing from autoimmune disease, preventing future disease and regaining energy and self control of your health.
For myself, I plan on getting to under 190 pounds. I plan to do this by continuing myhealth plan:
1. Eat gluten free, casein free, soy free, yeast free and egg free
2. The foods that are left I will eat the best and neutral foods for my blood type and stay away from the avoid foods (read Eat Right 4 Your Type and Live Right 4 Your Type by Peter J. D'Adamo, ND for more information). Watch a short video on Blood Type Diet Here.
3. Continue cycle training and core training and stretching and add Total Gym and elliptical workouts.
4. Get to bed earlier and wake up earlier.
Cheers! You can do it too. Just set your sights on what you want, and resolve each day work your plan. One day at a time you can do it. If you need help just ask me or any of my wonderful team members. We are all on a plan for wellness and healing.

Thyroid problems, especially hypothyroidism can alter blood fats such as cholesterol and triglycerides. The published evidence is quite clear in documenting that the actual total cholesterol level itself is not the most important risk factor of cardiovascular disease.

Doing Nothing And Thinking It Will Not Get Worse
A common myth, perpetuated by many sources, is that your thyroid symptoms will not get worse… that you have nothing to worry about. This is just not true. Studies have shown that approximately 90% of thyroid patients in the United States are most likely to have an autoimmune condition as the cause of their thyroid condition. This ties into the immune system and an immunological piece of this puzzle, which is only one piece of the puzzle.
If you sit around and wait for this to just go away on its own, or you just think you can do nothing and it will be OK… you are falling into a trap. Avoid it at all costs. The functional abnormalities are only getting worse, and you are making your recovery harder. To make matters worse, since most thyroid disorders in the USA are autoimmune and this aspect is largely ignored, additional autoimmune attacks occur – so more of your body is destroyed over time.
