5 Reasons Why Eating 'Gluten-Free' Can Keep You Ill [Infographic]

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Tue, Jul 14, 2015

I bet you are wondering why eating gluten-free can keep you ill, don't you?

There are many advocates of adopting a gluten free diet for the purpose of regaining health and reclaiming ones life from the ravages of an autoimmune or other illness. I am one of those advocates. I have witnessed first hand how removing gluten from ones diet can bring about a massive improvement in very ill patients.

Trying to heal your body on a gluten-free health supporting diet can get you into trouble, if you don't know what you are doing. This article can help you understand why eating gluten-free can be like opening Pandora's Box...when it comes to your health and healing. Keep reading and I promise you I will explain. You may have to read a couple of other article I wrote to totally "get it". It will be worth your efforts to dig into this important topic.

Some of the  patients who I have served had been searching for answers for their "mysterious" health challenges for 50 years!

After a thorough case review and adequate testing to reveal the underlying causes of the patients body dysfunction, a proper course of action can be commenced. Often I place the ill patient on a very clean, limited food choice diet in order to curb inflammation and reduce exposure to food intolerances noted on the patients' test results. Commonly the patient is advised to avoid gluten among other substances.

After celebrating with the patient for doing such a great job with their health supporting diet over the course of 1-2 months, we start expanding their food choices. At this point is when a health transforming care plan can go very wrong without expert guidance...

Patients often think that using so-called gluten-free foods to replace items they gave up to regain their health is totally okay. Unfortunately for many, eating the gluten-free analogs of the foods they used to eat habitually, often leads to a regression of their health. Substituting gluten-free prepared food items in an effort to be compliant with a health supporting diet is a newbie mistake.

In this article I will outline 5 reasons why eating gluten-free products can keep you ill.

The Answer to Diabetic Leg Pain (Neuropathy)

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Thu, Apr 09, 2015

One of the complications of diabetes is peripheral neuropathy.

Peripheral neuropathy is a result of nerve damage which often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet.

People generally describe the pain of peripheral neuropathy as tingling or burning as well as a loss of sensation compared to a feeling of wearing a thin stocking or glove.

Peripheral neuropathy is a serious disease of blood vessels that supply the nerves as well as the nerves themselves

The most common drug prescribed for people suffering with diabetic related leg pain is Lyrica®.

But it comes with a huge price.

To be quite honest I have to wonder how this drug was ever approved. One look at the PDR will get you wondering to.

Are Diabetics Being Cheated?

A recent diabetic patient was concerned that despite watching her diet and taking her diabetes medication her hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) keeps going up.

Remember, Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c or A1c) is a lab test that shows the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the previous 3 months. It shows how well you are controlling your diabetes.

Can Diabetes Be Managed Naturally?

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Sat, Mar 14, 2015

Diabetes Type 2, once called non-insulin diabetes mellitus and by other names such as adult onset diabetes is a disease process that can be managed naturally and even reversed in certain situations. The key is not to think of managing type 2 diabetes, but rather helping the individual with diabetes to resolve the underlying cause or causes before the condition is irreversible. There is a point of no return.

The biggest concept to understand is that of labeling a disease process and then going about treating the label. Treating the label is NOT what the topic of this article is about. Rather the thrust of the information you are about to read is how can YOU reverse the process that led to your body’s inability to control blood sugar.

Alzheimer's: Why is the Brain Deteriorating?

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Sat, Feb 28, 2015

After considerable research it is interesting to bring you up to speed on documented evidence of things which answer the question, "Why is the human brain deteriorating faster than the rest of the body?”

There are a multitude of factors regarding cognitive decline and today's article will touch on a few and also provide some solutions.

For starters I find it disturbing and somewhat criminal that a common class of blood pressure medications called calcium channel blockers have been proven radiologically on MRI to cause brain shrinking. Research has shown that these drugs cause deterioration of the I.Q. within 5 years' use.

Options In Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment

Posted by Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, DC on Mon, Jan 05, 2015

Most Options for Peripheral Neuropathy Treatment Include Prescription Medication, However Effective Drug-Free Options Are Available

Many neuropathy patients take the traditional medical route of attempting to treat the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy with powerful drugs. The irony is many medications that are prescribed for the treatment of other health challenges can bring about peripheral neuropathy by causing nerve damage.

Since medications don't help with the underlying causative factor(s) for neuropathy nerve damage, one of the most dreaded and dangerous side effects of peripheral neuropathy often occurs. What is this most dangerous neuropathy symptom? In my opinion it is the loss of balance due to subtle or significant loss of sensation in the feet. The loss of balance can lead to falls and even death!
